Tel Aviv University pays tribute to its former Chairman of the Board of Governors
30 April 2017

Tel Aviv University (TAU) mourns the passing of Harvey M. Krueger, TAU Honorary Doctor and former Chairman of its International Board of Governors. Harvey was a passionate friend of the State of Israel and a staunch supporter of Tel Aviv University and its American Friends (AFTAU). At TAU, Harvey established the Harvey M. Krueger Fellowships in the Humanities Fund at AFTAU to provide Israel’s most promising scholars with the opportunity to have a fully rounded education.

Harvey was a great Zionist and leader, playing a key role in opening the international capital markets to Israeli governmental and corporate securities. He and his beloved late wife Connie supported a plethora of causes in Israel and in the United States for many decades, focusing on higher education. Taking upon himself the role of Chairman of the Board of Governors, Harvey helped advance Tel Aviv University through a transition period to its current unprecedented growth. His commitment to Tel Aviv University exemplified his extraordinary generosity of heart and spirit.

Harvey was Vice Chairman of Barclays Capital, the successor to Lehman Brothers Inc. of which he was also Vice Chairman. He was educated at Columbia Law School. He has served on the boards of directors of many Israeli, European and American companies. Harvey was a former Chairman and Trustee of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum of the Smithsonian Institute, a member of the Board of Directors of Beit Hatfutsot, Beth Israel Medical Center in New York and Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a past Chairman of the Peres Center for Peace. He served on the Advisory Board of Carnegie Mellon University Department of History and was a Visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland.

Tel Aviv University and staff send their heartfelt condolences to the entire family.
