Updates regarding the coronavirus

To the TAU community,

We continue to regularly monitor the developments and updates on the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and would like to bring the following instructions to your attention:

1.  Visitors entering Israel

  • In view of recent developments, The Ministry of Health has added Italy to its travel warning list. All travelers who left Italy since February 13, 2020 must be immediately placed under a 14-day home quarantine. This applies to connecting flights through Italy as well.
  • This comes in addition to the previous list of countries that require home quarantine: China, South Korea (including connecting flights), Thailand, Hong Kong,  Singapore,  Macau,  Japan, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Andorra, San Marino and Austria  (excluding connecting flights).
  • The TAU community and its guests are requested to follow these and any other guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and to stay updated since the situation is evolving rapidly. More countries and territories might be added to this list in the coming days.
  • There are restrictions upon entering Israel for non-Israeli citizens/residents arriving from these locations. Therefore, such individuals must be advised to postpone their visit, or remain in quarantine for 14 days in a different country, for which there is no travel warning, prior to coming to Israel. In this case, we highly recommend having proof of the time spent in a “safe” country prior to flying to Israel. In general, visitors should be advised to follow closely the updates from the Ministry of Health.
  • Anybody required to home quarantine must report their status to the Ministry of Health by filling this form or calling the *5400 hotline.  The full instructions from the Ministry of Health, including about home quarantine, can be found here.

2.  Israelis traveling abroad

  • TAU students planning on studying outside of Israel for the semester but who are still here, are recommended to refrain from traveling. TAU will make sure to reintegrate such students in TAU courses.
  • Students who decide to pursue their semester abroad are asked to respect the local procedures communicated by the Host University or local authority.
  • TAU study delegations and trips abroad are suspended until the end of the semester.
  • TAU Faculty: All TAU Faculty members are requested to suspend traveling to areas on the warning list. In addition, TAU faculty teaching this coming semester are asked to currently cancel their travels abroad. For exceptional requests, please be in touch with the TAU Rector’s office.
  • TAU administrative staff: In principle, TAU organized travels abroad are suspended until the end of the semester. For exceptional requests, please be in touch with the Director General’s office. Following the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, TAU also recommends to avoid personal travels abroad for the foreseeable future.

3.  International conferences

  • International conferences at TAU campus with significant participation of international visitors taking place until the end of April should be canceled without further notice. Please take into consideration that this instruction might be extended until the end of the semester. For exceptional requests, please be in touch with your faculty’s administration.
  • Tau faculty who returned from international conferences, attended by visitors from a large number of countries, even if they took place in a country that is not included in travel warning list areas, are required to home quarantine for 14 days in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health.
  • Distance Learning: TAU academic units should make utmost efforts to enable distance learning solutions (especially, but not only, for students unable to attend classes due to quarantine). The Virtual TAU unit will guide academic units that need help with this matter.

In order to coordinate all aspects of this effort, information regarding COVID-19 is centralized and held by TAU International. Please feel free to reach out with any question on the topic through this form. If needed, you can also reach out to the TAU International team by phone at 03-6408118.

It is important to emphasize that the rest of the University's activities in Israel are taking place as usual, and that we strive to maintain routine. The Ministry of Health Director general has instructed the universities that for now the studies can continue and the second semester will be held as usual.
